I'd be fearful of doing this type of photography; not because of the fire, but because I'd be entranced by the flames while steadying myself for the perfect shot.

I would have possibly gotten entranced by the fire too - if I wouldn't have had to work so hard finding the correct exposure for each shot.
See - fire toys burn out slowly over their life span of a few minutes. There's never a reliable amount of light in any shot. You have to constantly fiddle with your camera to adjust f-stop and exposure. I mean second by second. It takes a huge amount of focus - technical as well as creative - to shoot fire. Which is why I love it. It's the ultimate challenge for any photographer.
But the reward is also hugely satisfying. As you can see. ;)
